Practice
I’m motivated by deep time and the weirdness and wonder of realities ruled by unseen forces and hidden energies under the surface of the everyday.
Working through video, photography, sculpture, web-based digital projects, speculative fiction and site-responsive works.
I use science research and Google rabbit holes to make art and understand my reality.
My arts practice is based in exhibition and commission formats for galleries, public art commissions, curating collaborative projects and developing responsive audience-engagement works. I work with a mix of site response and field research within physical space. These projects aim to engage a broadly diverse audience through ambiguous and immersive narratives and images.
Experience
With 25 years’ experience in over 54 exhibitions nationally and internationally, I have developed projects for Science Gallery Melbourne, Dark Mofo, Bundoora Homestead Art Centre, TENKU Arts Festival Japan, Northern Centre for Contemporary Art, Galerie pompom, Testing Grounds, Bus Projects, Charles Sturt University, Bargoonga Nganjin Community Library, c3 Contemporary Art Space, Centre Pompidou, Linden Centre of Contemporary Art, Seventh Gallery, Strange Neighbour and many more.
My work is included in public and private collections.
Curatorial practice
As a curator, I develop projects through a collaborative, non-hierarchical approach. Working independently and within arts organisations, I have collaborated with Australian and international artists, curators and artist-led initiatives across a range of exhibition and project contexts. My curatorial practice centres on relational methods, sustained dialogue and creating the conditions for artists and ideas to develop freely, with particular attention to practice-led mentorship and long-term career development.
I hold a BA (Fine Arts—Sculpture) from RMIT University. Over a 20-year career, I founded two of Melbourne’s longest-running artist-run initiatives: Seventh Gallery, now in its 26th year, and c3 Contemporary Art Space, which closed during the COVID-19 pandemic after 15 years.
